Surabaya, 13 June 2024 – In an effort to increase students’ knowledge and awareness of the importance of safety and emergency response, Great Crystal School and Course Center held an educational field trip to the Surabaya City Fire Department on 13 June 2024. This activity was attended by PreSchool students, teachers, and school support staff

This visit aims to provide a real learning experience outside the classroom, where students can understand more deeply about the duties and responsibilities of firefighters and the importance of safety in the surrounding environment. The students were enthusiastic from the moment they arrived at the firefighting headquarters.

Upon arrival, students were welcomed by the firefighting team. The event began with a demonstration of fire extinguishers and a demonstration of how to use them. Students also received basic training on what to do when faced with a fire, such as how to use a light fire extinguisher (APAR) and proper evacuation procedures.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to interact directly with the firefighters. They listened to stories and experiences from the officers about their daily duties, the challenges faced, and the satisfaction of saving lives and property. A question and answer session was also held, where students enthusiastically asked various questions related to the work of firefighters.

One of the most anticipated moments was the fire simulation. In this simulation, students were invited to practice emergency evacuation procedures. With direct guidance from firefighters, students managed to evacuate in an orderly and fast manner. This simulation not only provides practical understanding, but also trains students’ preparedness in dealing with emergency situations.

Mr. Albert, Teacher of Great Crystal School and Course Center, said that this activity is part of the curriculum that aims to equip students with knowledge and skills that are useful in everyday life. “We hope that through this visit, students can better understand the importance of safety and emergency response, and appreciate the important role played by firefighters,” he said.

This field trip to the Surabaya City Fire Department succeeded in providing a different and useful learning experience for Great Crystal School and Course Center students. It is hoped that activities like this can continue to be carried out regularly to broaden students’ insights and skills in various aspects of life.
